Level 3 Equine Management students from Brooksby College have enjoyed an exciting trip to Osberton International Horse Trials, gaining first-hand insight into the world of competitive eventing and the wide range of careers available within the equine events industry.

Held at Osberton Estate in Nottinghamshire, the prestigious event attracts some of the sport’s leading riders and horses, previously playing host to Olympic gold medallist Oliver Townend and silver medallist and member of the Royal Family, Zara Tindall. With international classes providing students with the opportunity to see elite riders and explore the world of equestrian eventing, the 2026 trials featured show jumping and cross-country competitions, alongside other equestrian activities throughout the weekend.

The experience provided an opportunity to connect their college-based learning with the realities of the professional equine sector. As part of their visit, students took part in a cross-country course walk, giving them the chance to examine the design and challenges of a competition course while considering how different obstacles and combinations are used across the various levels of eventing.

Reflecting on the students’ experience, Curriculum Quality Lead for Equine at Brooksby College, Cath Hake said: “Visits such as this are a fantastic way for our students to see the equine industry in action. Osberton gives them the chance to experience high-level eventing, explore the different stages of competition and, most importantly, understand just how many careers sit behind the scenes at a major equestrian event.

“Exploring these roles really can help students develop a broader understanding of the career opportunities available to them and help our students to build their knowledge, confidence, and professional aspirations before they head into the world of work.

“For our students, being able to observe the sport at an international level also provided valuable context for their current studies and future ambitions.”

As part of the wider Loughborough College Group, which encompasses Brooksby College, Loughborough College, Stephenson College, and IGNITE Performing Arts, Brooksby College is committed to providing students with practical, industry-focused experiences alongside their classroom and practical studies. With specialist equine facilities and opportunities to engage with professionals and major events, students are able to develop the knowledge and skills needed to progress into the equine sector.
